Hey, welcome back to Startup Sphere, the newsletter for founders, entrepreneurs, and operators looking for their next venture.
I’m back again with the new format - just one deep dive per newsletter.
I am also considering sending the newsletter more frequently, starting with 2x deep dives per week.
I’d love to know what you think 😀 ⤵️
How often would you be interested in receiving a Startup Sphere deep dive newsletter?
Thanks again for being a reader. Let’s get into this week’s big idea ⤵️
Big Idea
AI Coach for Online Dating Profiles
🛑 The Problem: Single people spend hours working on their dating profiles and messages, often getting few matches or replies without knowing why.
💡 The Pitch: Build an AI-powered coaching platform that analyzes a user's dating profile photos, bio, and message drafts, then delivers specific, actionable feedback on what to change to get more matches and replies.
⚙️ How it Works: Users upload their dating profile URL, and the AI analyzes and suggests rewrites. Users can also request multiple variations and see predicted impact scores.
You can charge a monthly subscription ($9/month) with optional one-time profile audits ($19 one-time fee) for non-subscribers.
❓ Why it Works: Dating app users (especially men) are highly motivated. Rejection stings, and a better profile directly translates to more matches, dates, and potential relationships. They'll pay for a tool that removes guesswork and saves hours of rewriting.
The market is viable now because LLMs can analyze visual and textual patterns at scale, and dating app APIs make profile data accessible.
⚔️ The Competition: There is some competition in the space, like MatchShot.
📖 The Playbook:
Join dating communities on Reddit (r/dating, r/OnlineDating, r/Tinder, r/Bumble, r/Hinge). Use the comments as an opportunity to plug a free version of the app (some sort of baseline analysis). In order to get their custom report, users have to submit their email. Use that to build up a list of emails and add them to a sequence where you upsell the paid product.
Partner with 3–5 dating coaches and relationship podcasters as affiliates (think Call Her Daddy, but much smaller). Offer them a 25% lifetime revenue share on every customer they refer.
